"For I know the plans I have for you" Declares the Lord, "Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

How to Know God’s Will for You
You’ve heard the gospel.Something in your heart has awakened. You know—deep down—that Jesus is not just a story, but the Truth.
And now the question rises:“What does God want from me?”“How do I know His will for my life?”
This is not a small question. It is the question every soul must answer when they begin to follow Christ.
But here is the good news—God is not hiding His will from you.
He is not distant, silent, or playing a game where you must guess your next step.He is a Father. And a good Father does not conceal the path from His children—He teaches them to walk in it.
God’s Will Begins With Surrender, Not Strategy
Many people think discovering God’s will starts with finding the right decision—Which job to take. Where to live. Who to marry.
But Scripture reveals something deeper.
Before God reveals direction, He forms devotion. Before He shows you where to go, He calls you to belong to Him.
God’s will is not first about what you do—It is about who you are becoming.
“Present your bodies as a living sacrifice…” (Romans 12:1)
This is where clarity begins. Not in striving, but in surrender.
His Will Is First Revealed in His Word
If you want to know what God is saying to you,you must first open what He has already said.
The Bible is not just a book—it is the voice of God made visible. It trains your heart to recognize truth. It renews your mind so you can discern what is good, acceptable, and perfect (Romans 12:2). And you can trust it—fully.
Because God cannot lie. What He speaks is not opinion, shifting, or uncertain—it is truth that stands forever.
The Bible was written across centuries, through more than forty different authors—kings and shepherds, prophets and fishermen—yet its message does not fracture or contradict. It tells one unified story: redemption through Jesus Christ.
What man could not orchestrate, God has preserved.
And woven throughout its pages are prophecies—spoken long before events unfolded, yet fulfilled with precision and clarity.
This is not just a book.It is the living, consistent, proven Word of God.
So when you open it, you are not searching for truth—you are encountering it.
Many ask, “God, what is your will for my life?”while neglecting the very place He has written it. Start here. Sit with Him in His Word.Let it shape your desires, correct your thinking, and anchor your steps.
Because God’s specific will for your life will never contradict His written Word. (Click Here to read how to read the bible).
God Leads Those Who Walk With Him
God’s will is not a one-time download—it is a relationship.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice… and they follow Me.” (John 10:27)
Notice that:They hear… and then they follow.
Clarity often comes as you obey, not before.
You may not see the full path ahead, but you will be given enough light for the next step.
As you walk with Him—in prayer, in obedience, in trust—your ability to recognize His leading will grow.
Daily Application: Walking in God's Will
Gods will is not hidden-- it is walked out daily. Here are some ideas for daily application; Remember this is a walk that is just beginning and it is exciting, be patient with yourself.
Begin your morning with prayer.
For me, I begin with thanksgiving and praise followed by putting on the spiritual armor of God. I then ask to be used by Him and that the Holy Spirit governs my flesh. Please don't feel like you have to say certain things to win favor, He just wants your heart and whatever is on it. (He already knows anyways!)
Spend some time with Him in the Bible!
I encourage you to begin in the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) to learn about the goodness of Christ and all that He did for us. Ask: "What does this show me about God? What is He asking of me/What does He want to show me?"
Highlight or underline any scripture that is speaking to you. Don't rush, this is where your mind is being renewed and your discernment is formed.
Obey What You Already Know
Clarity grows through obedience.
If God has already convicted you—respond. Forgive that person. Turn from that sin. Speak truth. Choose what is right, even when it’s hard.
You don’t need new direction if you’re ignoring the last one.
Pray Throughout the Day
Gods will is relational, not mechanical. Talk to Him as you go- He guides those who walk with Him, not just those who visit Him. Some things you can say when you are unsure day to day look like: "Lord, lead me." "Give me wisdom here." "Check my heart."
Test Your Decisions.
Not every open door is from God. Not every feeling is from the Holy Spirit.
"Test the spirits to see whether they are from God..." (1 John 4:1)
Something you can ask yourself & to grow in discernment are:
"Does this align with scripture?" "Does this pull me closer to Christ or pull me away?" "Is this led by peace from God or pressure from within?" "Is this making me too busy for God?"
Walk in Faith, Not fear.
You will not always feel 100% certain But God is faithful to guide those who trust Him.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart... and He will make straight your paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Closing Encouragement
You don't have to figure out your entire life overnight.
God is not asking for perfection--
He is asking for surrender.
As you walk with Him daily, what once felt unclear will become bright and clear because you learned His voice.
