"I said Yes to Jesus... Now What?"

Updated: Apr 9

You just made the most important decision of your life.

Maybe it felt emotional. Maybe it felt simple. Maybe you’re not even sure what exactly happened—but something inside you knows: I want God. I want truth. I want to follow Jesus.

So what now?

This is where many people get stuck—not at salvation, but in confusion after it. Because accepting the gospel is not the finish line… it’s the beginning of a new life.

Let’s walk through what comes next in a simple, grounded way.

1. What Just Happened?

When you turned your heart to Jesus, something real happened spiritually:

  • You were forgiven (your past is not your identity anymore)

  • You were made new (God begins a work inside you)

  • You were adopted into God’s family (you are not alone anymore)

This is not about feelings—it’s about truth. Feelings will catch up later.

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

2. Start Talking to God (Even If It Feels Awkward)

Prayer is not performance. It’s relationship.

You don’t need fancy words. Start simple:

“Jesus, I’m new to this. Teach me how to know You. Help me hear Your voice. I want to follow You.”

Talk to Him like He’s real—because He is.

3. Read the Bible Like It’s Food (Not Homework)

Don’t start with complicated books. Start here:

  • John (who Jesus is)

  • Luke (what Jesus did)

  • Acts (what life with the Holy Spirit looks like)

Even 5–10 minutes a day is powerful.

Ask:

  • What does this show me about God?

  • What does this show me about me?

  • What is one thing I can obey today?

Highlight the scripture that is ministering to you and write it down, memorize it & watch a transformation happen!

4. Expect Change… But Not Perfection

Following Jesus is not instant perfection—it’s transformation.

You may notice:

  • Old habits feel uncomfortable

  • Conviction replaces numbness

  • You start caring about things you used to ignore

This is growth, not condemnation.

5. Get Around Other Believers

You were not meant to do this alone.

Find:

  • A Bible-believing church

  • A small group or Bible study

  • Even one mature believer who can guide you

Spiritual growth happens in community, not isolation.

6. Don’t Confuse Attack With Failure

When you choose Jesus, resistance often comes:

  • Doubt

  • Temptation

  • Confusion

  • Old patterns resurfacing

This doesn’t mean you failed—it often means you’re now in a battle you couldn’t see before.

Stay close to God, not your feelings.

7. Your Next Step Is Obedience, Not Information Overload

You don’t need to understand everything right now.

You just need to take the next right step:

  • Pray today

  • Read a passage today

  • Say no to what pulls you away from God today

  • Say yes to what draws you closer

Closing: You’re Just Getting Started

You didn’t just “make a decision.”

You stepped into a lifelong walk with God.

And He is not far from you in this process—He is actively leading you, even in your confusion.

You are not behind. You are not too new.You are not disqualified because you don’t know enough yet.

You are being formed.
